Smell the roses

Proud of Brother who took time to notice and point out these budding trees on the way out of swimming. I had walked right past them in my rush to pick him up. Didn't even see them on the way back to the car til he said "Wow mom! Look - the trees bloomed. They're beautiful!"

Superbowl and super smart mouth

My 11 year old when I told him you can't throw things on the field. "You mean it's not okay for anyone to throw anything on the field?"

"Correct, they'd throw you out of the stadium"

"Well then someone should kick the quarterback out." Smartie pants

Count your blessings

Bro just told sis how much he misses recess. "Cherish that while it lasts," he said. "Also cherish practically no homework. I miss that too."

Pick poke you owe me a Coke

When I was a kid, we said Jinx. Now the kids are in the back arguing if
Jinx Paparazzi you owe me a soda or Jinx double padlock no key you owe me a soda.

End of an era

I am savoring my last meal in Sis's cafe. She has asked that the kitchen be passed on.

Really bad words

First dad said the D word. Sis called him out but wouldn't repeat what he said. She spelled it instead: dam. I felt obliged to teach her the correct spelling. She wanted to one up me saying she knew how to spell the F word. Alright I'm game. "F-U-K-K". Our giggles made it pretty clear she was off but we didn't offer a new version.

Ouch!

Poor sis. We heard dramatic cries of 'pain' and tears from the living room tonight. Sis came in the kitchen holding her ear because she had hit it on the "hard part of the auditorium". Some combo of dog, brother and piling up was the culprit. She was not really hurt but by the time I figured out she was talking about the "ottoman" I had the giggles so bad it sent her back to tears. Apologies and hugs fixed it but Oh my!

Food choices

Playing Barbies with sis this weekend her girl said, "oh I can't eat that. I'm a veterinarian".

Amazing technology

Brother just now with my phone in his hand just officially entered teendom, "I love texting. It is amazing. It's like talking to friends but you can do other things too. Like eat. Or whatever. It's seriously the best. You can do anything!"
Sis, "like go to the bathroom?"
Bro, "No. Well you can do it one handed, so yeah. But still no. That would be weird. Other things. It's seriously the best. You can have whole conversations."

Caught not Jo

Sis just tried the above phrase to look up one of her favorite songs. You know, "Where did you come from where did go? Where did you come from caught not Jo?"

A pile of smiles

Just came across a pile of notes meant to be captured here long ago. Not sure how old some are but they made me smile:

Whenever the box of Nilla Wafers came out sis ran over with a "Please also?" and a hand up in the air.

About a hard rain, "It's like rainfrogs. The raindrops look like a million jumping frogs."

The expressions when learning to chatter:
         Rebolting
         Open Meal
         Veg-uh-bowl
         Point your toe-point
         Ebentually
         Alienance

And brother when he learned to sign a song: I can reach sign language.

After I spilled a glass of milk Brother remarked, "Yeah, that's tough but life keeps going."

Sharing some loose coins with Sis she responded, "No, I need some of the paper kind"

And when he was very little a conversation with Brother:
Mom: are dinosaurs cold or warm blooded?
Brother: let me tell you about those. All dinosaurs are reptiles so that would be cold blooded. I think?
Mom: and dogs?
Brother: I think warm.
Mom: how about parrots?
Brother: I think warm because it's warm when I touch it
